Kshitij Anand – AIR 3
Kshitij Anand, a student of Seth Anandram Jaipuria School came first in the CBSE class 12th board exams in science stream. He scored a perfect 100 in English, Maths, Physics and Fine Arts, and a 97 in Chemistry. With a total of 497, he was able to secure the National Rank 3 (Overall) and the National Rank 1 in Science Stream in CBSE XII Board Examination 2017-18. He wants to pursue engineering.
Apart from studies, this goal-oriented achiever loves to paint as it helps him relax his mind and concentrate better. His success mantra includes staying focussed in class and making good notes. And though busy with his college admissions, Kshitij was kind enough to share his journey with me and inspire his juniors in the process. Here is a message that he wrote for guiding other students on how to ace the board exams. Let’s learn from the best!
I’m Kshitij Anand, student of Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, I pursued Science Stream for my higher secondary education. With the blessings of my elders, good wishes of my contemporaries and my hard work, I have been able to secure the National Rank 3 (Overall) and the National Rank 1 in Science Stream in CBSE XII Board Examination 2017-18. Talking about time management, honestly, I will not disclose my strategy as this skill requires complete personalisation. I do not want any science student to read it and follow it. I want that the few points I talk about, should be kept in mind while managing time. Firstly, identify your weakness and its gravity, devote more time to it. Secondly, overcome distractions which waste time. Don’t do this radically, give time to yourself. It may take months, but you will learn to fight distractions. Thirdly, never get overconfident on a topic or skill and devote less time. Just as every well-built strong structure needs perfect maintenance, do maintain your strengths. Just as every well-built strong structure needs a perfect maintenance, do maintain your strengths.
Coming from a middle class family, my parents were always worried that if I didn’t get good marks how will they manage my higher educations? And trust me their thinking is very justified and you realise it only when you start seeing the competition while applying to universities. So yeah some stress is always there. Remember, that building a shining glossy sculpture isn’t enough to put it up in exhibition as an epitome of perfection. You need to make it resistant to wear-and-tear of time. Similarly, stress acts as a catalyst in making you tougher on the inside which is very important in the New-Adult-Age. So, if you stay motivated and have self-belief, you will build self-confidence and finally learn to combat stress. Well, in the teenage we are never short of distractions and I’m 101% sure if someone in class 11th or 12th says I’m very innocent and straightforward and have no distractions, trust me it’s a PERFECT WHITE LIE!! Staying focused and attaching your inner self to your goals helps you avoid distractions. The method I used was regularly talking to myself and scolding me myself if I wasted time. It worked magic for me! With time, I felt every day I became a better human in my eyes than what I was yesterday and the feeling of happiness you have after building that focus is inexplicable. Staying focused and attaching your inner self to your goals helps you avoid distractions. The method I used was regularly talking to myself and scolding me myself if I wasted time. It worked magic for me!
In today’s competitive life, managing physical and mental health is very tough. I’m blessed with about a score of diseases. Earlier I used to get irritated at the poor condition of my physical health but later on I realised that if I stop thinking or giving importance to my physical pains and problems, they don’t overpower me. Anupam Kher once when working with Amitabh Bachchan, saw him heavily dressed in woollen shawls and fake beards sitting under the scorching sun, asked him, “Sir, don’t you feel hot? How are you sitting here this way?” To this Amitabh Ji very humbly replied, “If I think about the heat, I feel hot, if I don’t think about the heat, I don’t feel hot. Hence I’m thinking about my shot to come rather than the heat.” This answer left Anupam Ji speechless and is a source of motivation for me.
Pertaining to the topic of study tips, I don’t have any special tips to give. I simply followed what a student should follow. Read the chapter from NCERT once before it’s taken up in class – Take lecture notes during the lecture – Re-read the chapter once again so that whatever wasn’t clear in the first attempt is now clear – Solve questions – Practice past papers by looking at marking scheme provided by CBSE – Learn to write precisely and frame answers in form of points rather than writing stories and avoid un-needed explanations and answers.
