Khusi Daga, ISC AIR 2 – a student of Our Lady Queen of the Missions School

It is said that behind every successful student stands a teacher. How did your teachers and parents help you in your preparation for the exams?

My school and my teachers provided the best possible guidance for the exams and I owe my success to them. If you pay attention in school most of your work is already done. My rapport with my teachers was always good. They would take every pain to clear my doubts and helped me in every possible manner they could.

My parents helped me by trusting me and letting me do things at my own pace. They gave me enough space to make my own time table and follow it completely, and they never questioned me when I faltered. They never pressurised me and always displayed their utmost confidence in me and motivated me to do my best.

KEEP CALM. Don’t ever overstress yourself with a lot of work. Study with a calm and composed mind. Active recall makes studying much easier and helps the brain to remember things better.

Little things make a big difference. Can you share some simple study techniques and tips that you followed?

KEEP CALM. Don’t ever overstress yourself with a lot of work. Study with a calm and composed mind. Active recall makes studying much easier and helps the brain to remember things better. Rather than reading the text again and again one should make notes, practice questions in numerical subjects and underline important points. Reading aloud increases the ability to remember things better. By rewarding oneself for studying hard is yet another technique which I personally followed. Study less but with undivided attention. The duration for which you study does not really matter. What matters is the topics you studied with focus.

Toppers recognise that well-being is very important for their academic and personal success. They know that being well is a key to doing well in life, and it helps them to perform to the best of their ability day in and day out. But then, many students ignore their health for the sake of studies? How do you take care of your physical and mental health?

Pushing oneself too much on the day of the exam may backfire and create more stress and anxiety which hampers both mental and physical health. I believe that physical health is the key to mental well- being and good brainpower. It is important to indulge oneself in some kind of exercise, whether it is playing a sport, going to the gym or taking a walk. Also, maintaining a relatively healthy diet, staying hydrated and getting enough sleep are the small things one can do to improve brainpower and memory.

Paying attention in classroom is one of the most important things a student can do to excel in exams. How do you take active part in your learning process and make the most of your teachers’ teachings?

This has been the mantra of my school life – Pay attention in class, clear all doubts and complete the homework on time. This reduces a lot of time spent at home in understanding the topics again and you can straight-away start revising and practising numericals. Also sleep well. It will help you attend your classes with full diligence. There is no point in being dizzy and going to the classes.

There is an increase in the levels of stress and anxiety among teenagers. Any tips for dealing with negative emotions and ensuring that they don’t come in the way of your success march?

Have faith in yourself. Be confident in your abilities and know for a fact that nothing is impossible. You should know that you can do it. Just work hard and trust yourself.

Have faith in yourself. Be confident in your abilities and know for a fact that nothing is impossible. You should know that you can do it. Just work hard and trust yourself. I have found that whenever I stop thinking and planning for the next moment, I am happy and stress free. I too was negatively affected by stress many times. But I realized that what is bound to happen will happen.

It was only when I stopped seeking success that success found me. Also Stress and tension never help. Never be deterred by your failures because they are a part of your success. They add flavour to your triumph. Keep smiling and you will sail through. Keep yourself motivated and you will be successful.
